According to tradition (rabbinic?), Haman, the villain of Megillat Esther (the Book of Esther), which we read on Purim, was a descendent of Amalek, hence the choice of this maftir reading for the Shabbat (Sabbath) preceding Purim.

For some reason the adhoc minyan I davened with this Shabbos brought a bit of Purim speil into the Parshat Zachor davening. Influenced by this I recited Shabbat morning kiddush as follows;
Zachor et yom HaShabbat l'kadsho
Zecher et yom HaShabbat l'kadsho
etc.
Let's hear it for Purim shpeils!
